Shortly after Elvis recorded his first Sun single, That's All Right, he auditioned for the very popular Gospel group, The Songfellows.He failed that particular audition because they felt that he had problems harmonizing. However, a few months later they invited Elvis to audition again. This time they invited Elvis to join them. By now Elvis's reputation was growing as a rock'n'roll singer and this time, he turned them down.
It's interesting to ponder on what might have happened if Elvis had joined the Songfellows after that first audition. Gospel was Elvis's first love. He might well have become a Gospel star and not emerge as The King of Rock'n'Roll!
