🇮🇳 Indian Snacks Taste Test in Canada! | Trying 10 Snacks & Sweets from Brampton 🥨🍪 | Samuel & Audrey
🛒 Snack Haul: Picking 10 from Hundreds
With so much choice at the store, it was hard to stop at 10.
We’ve got a mix of savory and sweet Indian snacks, some familiar from past trips, others brand new.
Fun fact: many of these treats are perfect for train rides in India!
☕ Chai Time! | Starting with Instant Masala Chai
We kick things off by making a cup of instant masala chai (unsweetened), loaded with classic spices like cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, clove, and black pepper.
🍪 Snack #1: Mariatta Wheat Cookies
Crunchy, buttery, and not overly sweet—perfect for dunking in chai.
Audrey demonstrates the dunk, setting the bar for the rest of the snacks!
🥔 Snack #2: Lay’s Magic Masala Chips
A staple from Indian train rides, these masala chips are an explosion of flavor and a bit of heat.
Ketchup chips may be unique to Canada, but masala chips rule in India!
The taste brings back train journey nostalgia and epic cross-country trips.
🥟 Snack #3: Spicy Parm (Wheat Flour Chips)
These square, crunchy chips smell like samosas and taste like samosa corners.
Great with green or red chutney, and pack a spicy punch.
🍬 Snack #4: Besan Barfi (Chickpea Fudge)
Dense, crumbly, subtly sweet, and with a hint of almond/marzipan.
A unique twist on fudge compared to North American versions.
Sam’s notorious for eating whole bricks of fudge “for gifts”—that never make it to the recipient!
🍩 Snack #5: Shakkar Pare (Sugar-Coated Crunchy Squares)
Heavier and denser than bread, coated in crunchy sugar granules.
Quite sweet, but a bit bland inside—best with a hot cup of chai.
🌽 Snack #6: Peri Peri Roasted Makhana (Fox Nuts)
Resembling puffed corn or popcorn, these peri peri-seasoned makhana are light, savory, and addictive.
Ideal for train rides or Netflix bingeing—Sam’s new favorite!
🧇 Snack #7: Sago Seviyan Wafer
This one’s a fail—turns out it’s a cooking ingredient, not a ready-to-eat snack!
The pair discover they’re eating “snack section pasta” and vow to look up a recipe next time.
🍫 Snack #8: Black Bourbon Cream Sandwich Cookies
Like rectangular Oreos, with sugar granules and a creamy vanilla filling.
Both agree: “We love Oreos—these are dangerously good and won’t last long!”
🥥 Snack #9: Sarathi Coconut Cookies
Buttery, crumbly, and with a mild coconut flavor—perfect for dunking in chai.
Audrey’s mom is predicted to love these.
🍮 Snack #10: Soan Papdi (Indian Flaky Sweet)
Feathery, cotton candy-like texture with pistachios and almonds.
Super delicate, melts in your mouth, and is a top favorite among the sweets.
🥒 Snack #11: Pakori (Gram Flour Snack)
Crispy, but not flavorful on their own—meant for dipping in yogurt or chutney.
Sam and Audrey suggest this as a party snack for pairing with dips and sauces.
