The Southern Cross is a trimotor monoplane that was flown by Australian aviators in the first ever trans-Pacific flight to Australia from the mainland United States, a distance of about 11,670 kilometres (7,250 mi), in 1928.

Polar explorer and pioneering aviator Richard Byrd chose this rugged, dependable Ford Tri-Motor 4-AT to attempt the first flight over the South Pole.

Byrd and his crew of three successfully completed the momentous South Pole flight in late November 1929.

Built by the late H.D. Krausp in Frankfurt they are part of his more than 1400 1:72 scale model aircraft collection.
