Turner describes the improbable evolution of the tune: “I was driving back home to Santa Fe, NM coming from Flagstaff, AZ. My Bluetooth and sound conked out in my car and I stopped to regroup in Winslow, AZ, a real rat trap of a burg. Walked into a local coffee dump and I heard the theme song to the old cowboy western “Rawhide” on the P.A.! Wow! For the remaining 300 miles home, with nothing else to do, I mutated liberally the TV-themed melody in my head and came up with the story line of a dope deal gone bad in an opium den in the middle of cactus fields in the desert! Tracked a 1-take computer demo for reference when I got home and finished it off in a local studio, engineered and mastered by Santa Fe songwriting legend Jono Manson!”
