While wandering around his house, young Jojo Betzler hears strange noises coming from the walls.
Curious, he follows the sound to a hidden attic door and climbs up…
In the dim light, he sees her — Elsa Korr, a pale, sharp-eyed teenage girl.
It’s the first time Jojo has seen a real Jew — not the exaggerated caricatures from Nazi propaganda.
😱 Panic Mode:
Terrified, Jojo scrambles down the stairs.
But Elsa is quick — she chases after him, cutting off his escape.
🗡 The Threat:
Sizing him up, Elsa smirks and warns:
“If you tell anyone, I’ll twist your head right off.”
She even takes away his little pocket knife — a symbolic “disarming” of his bravado.
🚪 Retreat to an Imaginary Friend:
Shaken, Jojo rushes to his bedroom and locks the door.
Inside waits his imaginary friend — a goofy, exaggerated version of Adolf Hitler (Taika Waititi).
Together, they plot what to do next, blending Jojo’s fear, indoctrination, and childish absurdity into one surreal moment.
