It happened today across North America. Cities went dark and the temperature dropped 10 degrees in places as the Moon completely covered the Sun: a rare and beautiful sight! Astronaut Michael Massimino calls it "the most amazing event" he's ever witnessed on Earth. He explains how the Sun is 400x larger than the Moon but that the Moon is 400x closer to Earth: making the two a perfect shadow match.
