Eight soldiers lost their lives and 13 were wounded in a suspected jihadist attack on two military outposts in W National Park near Koudou Falls, northern Benin. The assault targeted bases that are part of Operation Mirador, Benin’s ongoing military effort launched in 2022 to combat extremist groups in the region. Military sources confirmed that during the confrontation, 11 militants were killed. This attack underscores the escalating security challenges in the sensitive tri-border area between Benin, Niger, and Burkina Faso. Earlier in January, a similar raid claimed by the Al-Qaeda-linked Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (GSIM) resulted in the deaths of 29 Beninese soldiers.
