II will be performing four songs with analog synthesizers and guitars. But this time around I will be as Kevin Shirley (Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Joe Bonamassa) calls it - I will be a "reactive player". Playing to music I already pre-recorded and composed for this album - Mercury. It's a completely different experience from a musician stand point. It' like playing with a live band when you know what they will play.
Also, Dark ambient music is a fascinating genre with a rich history and unique characteristics. Dark ambient evolved from industrial and ambient music in the late 1970s and 1980s, influenced by artists like Brian Eno, Throbbing Gristle, and Lustmord.
Early dark ambient artists often came from film sound design and experimental music backgrounds, using unconventional methods like field recordings, processed noise, and drones.
The thing that attracted me to it the most - it's that it is Highly Cinematic! Many dark ambient tracks feel like soundtracks to dystopian or horror films. The genre has been used in movies, video games (e.g., Silent Hill series), and even haunted attractions.
Also, unlike traditional music, dark ambient focuses on long, evolving drones and cavernous reverb, creating an immersive and often eerie atmosphere.
While some dark ambient artists incorporate themes of the occult, mysticism, or ancient rituals, using symbols, chants, or field recordings from sacred sites. But it's Not Always "Dark". While often ominous or unsettling, some dark ambient music has a meditative, hypnotic quality, making it popular for deep relaxation and even sleep. Dark ambient has influenced black metal, dungeon synth, and horror soundtracks. Some metal bands, like Burzum and Sunn O))), integrate dark ambient elements.
Many artists use real-world sounds—abandoned buildings, forests, underwater recordings—to add depth and realism to their compositions. I used the sound of analog tape, when you wind it on reel to reel and more.
I hope you will enjoy it and if you want to check out the whole album and support my work I publish everything here:
