Join me as I try to summit Alta Mountain with side trips to the absolutely beautiful Rachel & Rampart Lakes in the Cascades of Washington State featuring music of local folk and metal bands. No humans on camera, just nature and a Goat!

As with my other hiking videos in the series, I wanted to highlight some music that gets me in the mood and makes me feel nostalgic for the mountains and forests and on this particular video, I decided to make it an all Washington affair, with 5 bands from throughout the state where this particular hike took place. I tried to mirror the hike with the music by having the first songs be more light and playful (as is the beginning of this hike) and gradually get more and more dark and aggressive as the hike becomes more strenuous and begins ascending into the foreboding clouds. I added links to the bands' websites below, so please check them out if you enjoyed what you heard.

As for the hike, it's one of the more well known ones in the area, but this doesn't mean it's an easy one. The trail has a lot of roots and rocks in certain areas, which can definitely be frustrating at times, but this makes the payoffs all the more sweet. I had planned to summit Alta peak, but time and cloud cover got in the way so when I came upon yet another false peak and seeing the true peak completely covered in clouds, I made the decision to turn around. Turning around and not completing your goal of what you set out to do that day is always such a difficult decision for me, but after nearly running into the mountain goat on the trail, I figured nothing would top that in terms of awesomeness. This trail and basin really have so much to offer and it is definitely one of the most awesome and beautiful areas I've hiked in. I'll for sure be coming back.
