Today marks the 30th anniversary of Lush's sophomore album, 'Split'. A split between the songwriting of the red haired Miki Berenyi and guitar effects maestro Emma Anderson, but also a split of genres/styles. The complete ethereal dream pop of debut album 'Spooky' is shared with a harsher, more gritty distorted punk sound with feminist attitude. This album combines their early EP works such as 'Downer' and 'Leaves me Cold' and the noise with melody approach of 'Superblast!' and 'Nothing Natural' to create a well balanced album that shows all the different sides to Lush. Released on 4AD, the album was produced by Mike Hedges and mixed by Alan Moulder in various locations. It signified the end of the first wave of Shoegazing in the UK before Oasis and Blur et al took the 90's guitar music reigns by storm; One last hurrah!
