Mom and Dad are making sure the chick's expansive food crops remain stuffed full daily, mostly with fish now. Some of the eleven fish deliveries yesterday included some smaller or partially eaten fish to encourage self-feeding. We are now seeing mostly Sunny attempt to mantle and self-feed more (cover and claim food like Jackie does when yelling “mine!”). This is an important survival skill to have later on so their food is not stolen.
In the days to come, Sunny and Gizmo will also be working on wingersizing with more hops, jumps and stomps, gaining more strength and control as they stand and navigate around the nest. The chicks may be left in charge and alone longer, which is common as they get older. However, we have seen Jackie and Shadow are always close by with an eagle eye on them.
Sunny and Gizmo are staying busy moving sticks around like Mom and Dad, checking out new cool nest fluff, pinning down loose feathers or nibbling on pieces of fish. They also test their limits while exploring the nest, tracking flybys and observing the neighborhood.
Gizmo seemed to have had quite the growth spurt this past week, and wasn't shy last night when showing Sunny its cool "new" wings. By Sunny's priceless head bobbing reaction and apparent cheerleading while Gizmo was performing, Sunny was clearly impressed and proud of little sib! (see last clip of video). These two seem to really have a special sibling bond that warms our hearts and just makes us all smile.
Thank you for being here and for your support. Stay tuned for the next family eagle adventures at this amazing nest!
