Far from the clichés of Latin American music, the Colombian blues does exist and FatsO is the best demonstration of it. Born in Bogota into an extraordinary network of musicians from eclectic backgrounds, the group founded in 2012 by double bassist Daniel Restrepo, a true dignitary of music in his country, oscillates between bluesy fanfare, rebel rock and old-school jazz. With his deep and hoarse tone, as rocky as the groove of his instrument is massive, the leader of this formidable quartet, bringing together the cream of national sizes, does not hide his influences: from Ray Charles to Joe Cocker via Tom Waits and Léonard Cohen, all the greats he drank from as a child thanks to his father's huge record collection. A great adventurer, having cut his teeth in the United States where he studied music, Daniel Restrepo totally masters his subject as a composer, producer (founder of the REEF label) and publisher. The result is a first album "On Tape", a hit of 2016 in Latin America, whose songs inspired by Colombian vices and customs (smoky bars, misery, drugs, crime and prostitution, etc.) and contrasting rhythms affirm FatsO as the new flagship group from a country better known for its cartels than its quartets! In Blues Brothers style black suits and glasses, the big names Daniel Linero (clarinet and sax, member of the famous Mojarra Electrica), César Morales (drums) and Santiago Jimenez (guitar) nimbly escort the bassist crooner in this explosive combo that plunges us into the hectic pulsations of the Andean metropolis.
