For two days in a row, Sunny made its way up the guard rails on the right side to take a peek at what's beyond the nest. Gizmo tried too, but couldn't conquer that first big stick like big sib Sunny. That brave stunt wore them out and they both plopped down together in a heap to rest.
On Tuesday morning, Sunny showed its stuff by conquering a new milestone… pulled up and stood tall and strong like a Big Eagle for just over a minute! It's not easy to navigate on that big bed of sticks and fluff but Sunny had a few more successful stand-ups and short walk-arounds.
Both chicks seem to have major growth spurts and change overnight.
Gizmo's been showing off its beautiful wings and working on pushing off its toes and standing up like Sunny. Preening and long naps are a priority for these two fluffers after all their daily exercise, with legs and wings outstretched wherever they may land.
The chicks have decorated the trees around the nest in white with their poop shot target practice. Mama Jackie was the unlucky one though and was hit by both chicks yesterday. She gave a look of “really?” but doesn't seem to mind too much and takes it all in stride.
Later in the afternoon, Sunny tried to warn a napping Gizmo that Dad was coming in hot with a big fish. Oops… too late! Shadow plopped a fish down right down by Gizmo's head! Shadow doesn't always have the smoothest landings but he means well and that fish was big so he was probably excited and proud to deliver it! Jackie also brought a bird for the pantry and Shadow hauled in eight more fish for the day.
The kids have been finding feathers, mini pine cones, small sticks or fluff to play with and they're growing into their wings, beaks and feet. Last night, while resting together, the sun on their backs formed a beautifully shaped heart. A perfect emblem of this family and what they mean to all of us… pure love!
