So, while there are no houses available for purchase this early in the game, unlike Vice City that allowed a purchase even if the second island was locked, San Andreas does not allow such actions. The only way(?) for the game to save in these restricted areas is to win at gambling. In this not-so- famous small casino(most likely you can do this in the more famous ones, like The Four Dragons Casino), if you win one game playing the Wheel of Fortune the game saves without knowing. This could be a "glitch" because the autosave is not even registered before the second mission "big smoke". Thus, one can´t load this autosave, for it simply is not there in the menu. The down side of it is that, if you die, you respawn in LS and if you reload the last saved game you won´t spawn in LV, but only in LS. This is why i say it must be autosaving without actually registering. If you die, you will have to close the game and reenter it, fully loading it(with Rockstar intro and all) and after the short loading screen you will immediately be in LV.
After having an affair with Katie(with the two cities locked), if CJ dies in San Fierro, you will respawn next to her house without losing your arsenal and a 4-star wanted level will stay on.
