**About the Album:**
"Raw Scent" is the second album by Abortive Gasp, recorded during the winter of 1988/89 in Hamburg. Unlike their earlier works, Luehr and Paal placed a greater emphasis on fixed song structures for this album. Four tracks were recorded at Ingo Schüttes' conventional studio 'Lamplight' in Hamburg, resulting in a more solid and radio-friendly sound. This is particularly evident in tracks like "Psychgod," "Morph Pusher," and "Reckon On You," which clearly assign the album to the EBM genre, albeit with strong industrial elements.
The remaining songs were taped and mixed in the auditorium of a particle acceleration research center in Hamburg-Bahrenfeld, which unfortunately had a negative impact on the sound quality. During this period, the transition from analog to digital music recording was taking place, and Abortive Gasp struggled to meet the technical standards of the time despite the high-tech environment.
The album also includes humorous sound samples of then-Conservative Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, heard on "Media Overload," and she features on the album cover in a photo composition, masking the secret third band member. This creative use of Thatcher highlights Paal and Luehr's youthful, hedonistic attitude, distancing themselves from political stances.
