I know the images I make don’t make sense to others but this one is probably one of the stranger things I’ve found in the swirl/splatters on acetate. I chose this one because of the sheep/calf type head with feathers around the collar and I thought it looked interesting. The splatters are small so details are hard to make out, it’s only an inch or so across. Near the beginning of the video is the reference splatter bordered with black paper.
When I started drawing I saw a sheep head in black and the white torso which ends in kind of a blasted explosion with smoke coming out the back, it appeared perched or mounted like a trophy on branches attached to a log. The log also had smoke coming out of it.
I also liked this image because the blasted area looked like there were two tiny figures facing off in the crater left by the blast. It felt very apocalyptic to me.
So this is strange enough on its own but then when I began drawing it I noticed that the branches kind of resembled a foot, but not just a foot but in a sandal as well and even more biblically, pierced with a large nail with blood. The other strange thing was that the log being crushed and pierced by the foot and nail had sort of monstrous features and when drawing had many features that appeared and then changed as I kept adding details. This reminded me of biblical references to the head of the serpent or the devil being crushed by Saints or the Virgin Mary. So I guess this hits on a lot of references for me. The sacrificial lamb or sheep, an apocalyptic battle, the meat industry, the serpent being crushed and the redemption of the cross and crucifixion. All in one bizarre combo of spiritual symbolism…
The song I made creating my own loops and vocals in GarageBand that is free to download, edit and use with credit to Andyshouse or Andy Collins.
