Honda is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its first victory in the FIA Formula One World Championship (F1) this year.
As part of the commemoration, Honda and Williams Heritage have worked hard on a complete restoration of Honda's 1986 Williams Honda FW11-02. The FW11 is powered by the Honda RA166E, a 1.5L V6 twin-turbo engine, said to have produced well over 1,000 horsepower. In 1986, it powered Williams Honda to nine wins out of 16 rounds, claiming Honda F1’s first Constructors’ Championship title.
Arriving from Japan at the start of the year, the car has undergone a meticulous restoration in order to get it ready for the Goodwood Festival of Speed before it travels to America and to Monterey Car Week. At Goodwood it was driven by Karun Chandhok, Thierry Boutsen, Riccardo Patrese, and of course reunited with Nigel Mansell.
To see 'Red 5' going up the famed Hill was truly a highlight of the weekend, and of months of painstaking work.
