Disney may have just confirmed a wild fan theory: Mufasa, the wise Lion King, knew magic. In the comic Disney Villains: Scar #4, Scar dreams of a desolate Pride Lands under his rule. During this, Rafiki appears, warning him that it’s a vision of a possible future. When Scar accuses Rafiki of casting a spell, Rafiki cryptically responds, “You were taught by the best. Me.” This hints that both Scar—and possibly Mufasa—were trained in magic by Rafiki. This could mean that Mufasa’s famous return as a cloud wasn’t simply a divine moment but instead a display of his magical prowess. If Scar could manipulate dreams, perhaps Mufasa used his powers from beyond the grave to guide Simba and also the wind telling Rafiki that Simbas alive, the Fisher king style thing of the Pridelands changing from Scar becoming king and from Simba becoming king. This revelation opens up intriguing possibilities for The Lion King franchise. With Mufasa and Scar hinted to have magical abilities, could we see Simba learning magic from Rafiki in future stories?
