🎸 Elevate your guitar skills with exclusive guitar lessons & tips at Whether you're picking up a guitar for the first time or looking to master advanced techniques, I'll share with you everything I've learned in my guitar journey 🎸

You don't see many tenor guitar any more, and you hear even less. They used to be very popular in the early 1900's and were used primarily for rhythm guitar.. sort of like wooden-bodied 4-string banjos. But they had less volume and cut than a banjo, and less bass and range than a 6-string guitar, so they fell out of popularity. This vintage Harmony Monterey Archtop Tenor Guitar has such a pure, dry, lonesome tone. If you listen closely, especially with headphones, you can hear so many harmonics and ghostly overtones (some of which come from the sympathetic vibrations of the strings behind the bridge.) Even thought you could technically play this same song on a 6-string, and add bass notes with the two additional lower strings, there is a certain soul that comes from the tenor guitar that we have lost touch with, that only comes from a tenor.
