The government has announced plans to extend its 'deport now, appeal later' scheme for foreign criminals, but the shadow chancellor has questioned whether it would be fair to victims of crime.

Minister for victims, Alex Davies-Jones, has admitted the government could not guarantee those convicted in the UK would be imprisoned in their country of origin after they were deported.

Speaking to Sky News, shadow chancellor Mel Stride accused the government of failing to tackle the migrant crisis and said a deterrent was needed to stop small boat crossings.
