Diana Gameros, a 2015 YBCA 100 artist, presents an evening of Latin-influenced indie-pop, folk, jazz, and orchestral music. The music is complemented by storytelling through poems and sound clips inspired by her journey as an immigrant, the constant search for “home,” and the stories of those she’s met along the way. The Bay Area-based artist’s album will be available for sale so you can relive the moving lyricism.
YBCA presents SF Sonido Fest, a four-day music festival featuring a rich diversity of Latin American & Caribbean singer-songwriters. These artists are socially and politically conscious, poetically capturing the triumphs and challenges of their native lands through their music. They have embraced activist roles as proponents of social justice and bridging disparate cultures – an exchange facilitated by and celebrated in their lyrics. The music represents different approaches to honoring traditional artforms: preservation, and modernizing the sound. SF Sonido Fest explores the pursuit of freedom from both physical and historical boundaries. Performances showcase the breadth of Latin American and Caribbean music, from indie-folk to Venezuelan jazz, Cuban Nueva Trova, and Honduran Garifuna music. This eclectic music festival takes your ears, heart, and body on a journey, each artist’s narrative drawing you in as if you’re on stage with them!
