
Though he ultimately declined the opportunity, Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates came perilously close to working with one of the greatest songwriters in history, Bob Dylan. As Hall was writing songs for his 1986 solo album Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine, he became aware of the clear Dylan influence on "Dreamtime," one of the album's tunes. The song brought up memories of Dylan's Blonde on Blonde phase, and for a short while, Hall and his producer, Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, considered asking Dylan to provide the lyrics.
