To the east of the town of Lal Lal, in Victoria, Australia, lies the remains of an enterprise which was the only of its kind to have ever been attempted in Victoria.

This company, formed to exploit a rather strange, and surprising mineral deposit. That was created as a result of the topographical features that exist here. With the land being a basin, which allowed for the accumulation of sediment of both organic, and, inorganic material, which lead to the occurrence of some unique mineral deposits.

In this video we will explore the unique geological and geographical settings that allowed for the creation of the lignite and brown coal deposits of Lal Lal. And we'll explain how they formed, why they formed, and why this is the only area where a mine was attempted, to extract the pig iron, in this state, to this day.
