
After you've warmed up and spent some time in your focus area, it's time to apply what you just learned. The third phase of an effective practice routine is to leverage your focus area, your main practice topic by learning a song, writing a lick or doing something that really reinforces the concepts that you just worked on.
In short, learn something and then put it into practice.
