You know what’s going on. I’m making quick and hopefully interesting videos about all the elements on the periodic table in simple language. Today’s episode is about boron which is the 5th element on the periodic table. Right here.
If you asked me which element is schizophrenic I would say Boron.
Because it behaves both like a metal and non-metal.
It has so many forms and it’s used in a lot of places, here is me trying to say all of them in one breath.
Pesticides,
Rocket fuels,
The green color in fireworks,
Eye lotion,
Ear drops,
Fertilizers, it’s actually essential for plant life,
Pills for bone disease,
Soaps,
Antiseptics,
Antifungal medicine,
Preventing fire in fabrics,
Ceramics,
Fiberglass,
Bodybuilding supplement,
Laundry detergents,
Nuclear reactors as a regularizer,
Ooblek,
Cancer treatment,
And many more
The last two I wanna explain more. Oobleck, spelled like this which the name btw comes from a book by Dr Seuss, is a non-newtonian fluid.
What does that mean? Well, remember when I told you Boron is schizophrenic, well oobleck is solid when you apply force to it, and it’s liquid when you don’t apply force to it.
You’ve probably seen it with people running over it and then sinking if they slow down.

Now most recently it has been very promising for cancer treatment,
The thing is that Boron loves to absorb neutrons, and they inject a form of Boron into the body, and tumors love this stuff so they absorb most of it.
Then they emit neutrons at the tumor, and these borons act like a secret agent and the whole process makes alpha particles that destroys the tumor. Pretty interesting stuff if you ask me.
Long story short, inject boron, tumor loves boron, boron loves neutron, emit neutron, tumor die. Wasn’t that the storyline for the movie Twilight.
The other thing is that Boron might be the key to evolution for life on Earth and that it’s found in meteorites, which if you’ve seen my other videos, you should know that’s how I believe humanity came into existence, from space.
Turkey and the US make a lot of it and there is a city in California that’s named Boron which has the biggest borax mine. Borax is the name of one of the boron forms found in nature, whatever it’s all just names.
