Phew, my second ever music video. The instrument I'm playing is a Tagelharpa that I designed and built out of old pallet wood. There's a voiced behind the scenes video of the building of it on Patreon if anyone's interested.
The instrument dates back as far as 1300, so it's pretty old. It doesn't have a fretboard which makes it rather unique, you have to bar the strings with your fingers and bow pretty intensely. I was going to use a violin bow, but I found a nice stick in the woods and decided to make my own.
It doesn't produce a pretty sound, it actually sounds medieval. It's gnarly and lovely in its own way. I tried to write the song with that in mind, so it's a really simple tune with lots of droning notes. The name literally translates to "Year of Famine" which I thought was really fitting considering the sound and ambiance.
Thank you very much for listening and supporting me through this journey. This wouldn't have been possible with the kind and supportive people on Patreon. I'd love to make more of these, if you want to support the creation of more videos like this one, have a peek at the rewards on Patreon.
A special thank you to Clayshaper and Mando, check out their stuff!
