Another classic Johnson Valiant comes to the bench of D-lab. This one was acquired by a fellow Ham operator at an estate/barn sale. It was dusty & rusty. Good thing was, it is a factory built unit! Inspection revealed it as No-Mods, No- abuse. A great one to restore. So, first step, fresh quality filter capacitors. Then bring it up slow on a variac. Everything went fine, without any hiccups. There were numerous minor repairs required, plus removing known failures. Transmitter sprang to life. Great modulation. Soon, I will be passing it back to the owner. Another Valiant soon to rule the airwaves!
