Rap was something i grew up on, I was always buying the Source and XXL magazines but I didn’t wanna be a rapper, I just knew Hiphop was something I needed to be apart of..
Breakdancing was cool but in primary school I didn’t know anybody that breakdanced.
As far as grafitti.. I dabbled in it.. tagging bus n school toilets but I wasn’t the best writer.
But when I turned 16yrs I got a pair of turntables. With help from a family friend who was also a DJ helping me.. he instructed to Watch this Documentary called SCRATCH.
I was fascinated by this new world shown to me. I was bit by the DJ bug and now felt like I was apart of something.
DJing created a positive outlet for me and kept me grounded through the years, even when I strayed off the path and got myself into trouble, it was something that was always there for me to come back to..
So today, well over a decade on from when I began my journey into DJing. I reflect on the influence Hiphop has had in my life. So here goes a quick playlist of some of my favourite songs that I grew up on..
DJing is something that kept me up at night. There is always room for improvement no matter how good you get you can always develop a new skill in the craft. You can apply that to anything really.
