For lunch, we went to 'La Barca', a bodegón, or old-fashioned restaurant specializing in pastas, made fresh every day. We ordered gnocchi, sorrentinos, cannelloni, and also tried a typical meat dish called matambre, which means 'hunger killer' and is basically a flank roll stuffed with vegetables, hard-boiled eggs and herbs. We spent the rest of the afternoon shopping for some souvenirs to take home, and also booking an excursion which you'll see in the next video. Sometimes you just need to have a bit of an easy (or lazy!) travel day, and that's exactly what we did.

🌞 Mendoza City Sights & Argentine Pasta | A Wine-Free Day in Argentina 🇦🇷🍝
☀️ Morning in Mendoza: Wine-Free Challenge
Welcome back to Mendoza, Argentina! After days of wine tastings and vineyard visits, we challenged ourselves to a “no wine” day. Today’s plan: classic sightseeing, enjoying the city’s green spaces, and digging into homemade Argentine pasta—without a single sip of wine. Could we survive? Join us to find out!
🥐 Breakfast & Plans for the Day
The adventure begins at a cozy local café, where we fuel up with breakfast and strategize for a day away from Mendoza’s legendary bodegas. Yesterday’s indulgences called for a lighter start—and maybe a bit of recovery! Despite some reluctance, the spirit is high for exploring Mendoza’s city highlights and enjoying its sunshine.
🌳 Strolling Parque General San Martín
Our first stop is the sprawling Parque General San Martín, one of the city’s top attractions and a must-see for visitors. With palm trees, lush gardens, walking and biking trails, and a scenic lagoon, this park is the green heart of Mendoza. Locals row, jog, and relax, while the distant Andes paint a stunning backdrop. We reflect on Mendoza’s reputation as the “province of sun and good wine”—and today, we’re just soaking up the sun!
🗿 Cerro de la Gloria: Monument & History
Next, we climb up to Cerro de la Gloria (Mount of Glory), home to a monument that pays homage to the heroic Army of the Andes led by General José de San Martín. This impressive sculpture captures Argentina’s fight for independence from Spain, highlighting key figures, historical scenes, and national symbols.
Panels and Symbolism: Explore detailed reliefs showing cannon and sword making, honoring Fray Luis Beltrán (the army’s master armorer), and featuring Lady Liberty breaking the chains of colonial rule.
San Martín & the Andes: The monument immortalizes San Martín on horseback, the small but determined army (with detailed troop numbers), and the mighty condor representing mastery of the mountains.
A History Lesson: Get a quick but fascinating crash course in South American liberation, from battles in Chile to the liberation of Lima, Peru.
🍝 Argentine Pasta Lunch: Homemade & Hearty
After history, it’s time for food—no Argentine day is complete without pasta! We visit a local spot known for freshly made pasta, where each dish is packed with flavor and tradition:
Spinach & Ricotta-Stuffed Pasta: Like crepes, filled to the brim—comfort food at its best.
Ñoquis (Gnocchi): Made from potato and ricotta, light and fluffy.
Sorrentinos: Giant ravioli-style pasta stuffed with four cheeses and ham, topped with parmesan—pure cheesy goodness!
Quality & Tradition: Everything is homemade daily, making each bite a true taste of Mendoza.
🍰 Classic Dessert: Sweet Potato & Cheese
For dessert, we try a beloved Argentine treat: sweet potato with creamy cheese (Membrillo y Queso). It’s a sweet-and-savory combo that perfectly wraps up our indulgent meal. Even after all that pasta, there’s always room for something sweet in Argentina!
