In Taitung City and surrounding areas in southeastern Taiwan, Typhoon Podul brought 118 mph winds, heavy rainfall, and high waves, paralyzing daily life. Schools and businesses were closed, hundreds of flights were canceled, and thousands of people were evacuated. Agricultural lands suffered severe damage, while maritime transportation along coastal areas came to a complete halt. Meteorologists warned that in mountainous regions, rainfall could reach up to 600 mm (23 inches), increasing the risk of landslides and flooding.
