Farm fresh bitter gourd right from my garden — and this time, I turned it into a rich stuffed bitter gourd masala curry, a spicy bitter gourd moju with dried fish, and even a refreshing pineapple jelly dessert! This video is all about traditional Sri Lankan cooking, village harvests, and homemade recipes using garden-fresh ingredients. ➡️ The bitter gourd vines you’ll see in this episode come from a mix of seeds, including rare white bitter gourd gifted by my uncle and special varieties from a friend at the Department of Agriculture. As I harvested them, memories of my grandmother’s famous bitter gourd sambol came rushing back — the kind she made with care and love using a stone mortar. With today’s harvest, I prepared a hearty Sri Lankan bitter gourd masala stuffed with spices like cumin, fennel, coriander, cinnamon, lemongrass, and more — all blended with curd, tomato, and onion for that deep, traditional flavor. I also lightly battered and fried the bitter gourd flowers, similar to how I once cooked winged bean blossoms. All this was served with basmati yellow rice, dhal curry, and gotukola sambol — a classic Sri Lankan feast. ➡️ To cool off after working in the pineapple-scented 'Gale' plantation, I made a quick pineapple jelly pudding — a tropical dessert perfect for warm days. And to finish the day, I whipped up a spicy bitter gourd moju using freshly picked chilies and washed dried fish, served with string hoppers and kiri hodi.
