The three methods I showcase in this video are: Content Aware Fill, Pre-Comp method and still photo editing method 00:00. Intro 00:35. Content Aware Fill 02:32. Pre-Comp method 05:03. Still photo editing method 1. Content Aware Fill -Pen tool , draw a mask around this mark on the wall. -Change that mask to None. -Right click and hit the track mask button. -Change this mask to Subtract. -Click on layer and open Content Aware Fill panel. -Increase Alpha Expansion to 10 -Change fill method to Surface. -Click Generate Fill Layer. And now After Effects is going to try and use its artificial intelligence to try and come up with something to fill the gap based on what it can see around it. So this is very clever, but depending on the shot, it doesn't always get this right. 2. Pre-Comp method -Duplicate your layer. -Select the top layer and do what I did before and draw a mask around the mark on the wall. -Right click and go to Track Mask. -Analyze forward once again. Right. -Leave this mask set to Add this time. -Right click on this top layer, tick Pre-compose. -'leave all attributes' -Double click on our pre-comp to open it and shuffle the clip inside slightly using position. -Close the pre-comp and check original sequence. We're now seeing a pasted part of the wall from just slightly further over. 3. Still photo editing method (Save a freeze frame, edit that somewhere else like Photoshop and then replace it in the image and track it.) -Composition, Save Frame As and then File. -Open in Photoshop or whatever you're using to edit and remove mark. - Import that into After Effects and just drop it on top of footage. -Draw mask around it, just leaving enough room to feather it. -Switch off top layer and do a motion track on that mark on the wall. -Track Motion, analyze forward. -New Null Object. -Edit Target, select Null -Switch back on my top layer with the mark removed. So those are several methods of trying to remove an object from your frame. In some shots, one will probably work better than the others. You just need to experiment and see what you can come up with. But if you need to remove something from your frame that wasn't meant to be there, those are three methods of doing it. In this After Effects tutorial I show you 3 ways to to remove unwanted objects or mistakes from your films, you can use these methods
to try and fix any mistakes or problems (like the Game of Thrones coffee cup!) without distracting your audience. It's a preview of my course (link above). Check it out if you enjoy this teaching style and want to learn more!

As a demo I try and remove a noticeable mark on a wall in a moving shot.
The three methods I showcase in this video are:
Content Aware Fill, Pre-Comp method and still photo editing method

00:00. Intro
00:35. Content Aware Fill
02:32. Pre-Comp method
05:03. Still photo editing method

1. Content Aware Fill
-Pen tool
, draw a mask around this mark on the wall.
-Change that mask to None.
-Right
click and hit the track mask button.
-Change this
mask to Subtract.
-Click on layer
and open Content Aware Fill panel.
-Increase Alpha Expansion to 10
-Change
fill method to Surface.
-Click
Generate Fill Layer.
And now After Effects is going to try
and use its artificial intelligence
to try and come up with something to fill the gap
based on what it can see around it. So this is very clever,
but depending on the shot,
it doesn't always get this right.

2. Pre-Comp method
-Duplicate your layer.
-Select the top layer
and do what I did before and draw a mask
around the mark on the wall.
-Right click and go to Track Mask.
-Analyze forward
once again. Right.
-Leave this mask
set to Add this time.
-Right click on this top
layer, tick Pre-compose.
-'leave all attributes'
-Double click on our pre-comp to open it and shuffle
the clip inside slightly using position.
-Close the pre-comp and check original sequence.
We're now seeing a pasted part of the wall
from just slightly further over.

3. Still photo editing method
(Save a freeze frame, edit that somewhere else like Photoshop
and then replace it in the image and track it.)
-Composition,
Save Frame As and then File.
-Open in Photoshop
or whatever you're using to edit and remove mark.
- Import that into After Effects
and just drop it on top of footage.
-Draw mask around it,
just leaving enough room to feather it.
-Switch off top layer and do a motion
track on that mark on the wall.
-Track Motion, analyze forward.
-New Null Object.
-Edit Target, select Null
-Switch back on my top
layer with the mark removed.

So those are several methods of trying
to remove an object from your frame. In some shots, one will probably work
better than the others. You just need to experiment
and see what you can come up with. But if you need to remove
something from your frame that wasn't meant to be there,
those are three methods of doing it.

If you enjoy this teaching style
and you want to see the rest of the lessons,
then you can, of course, buy the full mini course or learn more
about it by clicking on the link below. It's called After Effects Essentials,
and it's 30 video lessons to get a complete beginner up
and running quickly with the program Adobe After Effects to get results
like I do in my VFX work. And it even comes with a downloadable
selection of my footage to practice with.
Happy movie making
and I'll see you next time!
