Join us for our New Year’s celebration at Lake Tarawera in Rotorua, New Zealand.

Our dear friend Tara and her family (@Kiwiamericans ) happened to be in the Rotorua area and invited us to spend the day at Lake Tarawera and welcome the new year together.

The amazing nature in Rotorua made our drive to the lake that much more enjoyable. However, finding the summer bach (cottage) they were staying at took a little bit of walking through the forest.

When we finally reached the cottage, we were surprised by the number of people that were there. But, as we always say, the more the merrier, right?

Chantal immediately took a tour around the house, and she was beyond amazed that such a tiny space could sleep almost 30 people. Yep, you read that right!

The rooms were small but functional. There were so many beds and mattresses that it was hard to keep track. But all rooms had something in common, and that was a breathtaking view! We swear it looked like a postcard.

After we got all settled, it was time to seize the day and go for a swim in the fresh waters of Lake Tarawera.

Needless to say, we had sooo much fun. With people from New Zealand, Canada, the USA, and Germany, it was definitely an international party!

But swimming didn’t seem adrenaline-pumping enough for us, so we decided to go Tubing, which is called biscuiting here. We definitely made some unforgettable memories.

The fun culminated on New Year’s Eve with a disco party and the best countdown ever!

We put our swimsuits on and….

9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2...1…JUMPED into the Lake at midnight!
