All-New 2021 Acura TLX 1st look // More Power-More Style-More Cowbell

#NewTLX #AcuraTLX #TLX Here is the first look at the all-new 2021 Acura TLX and TLX Type S sedans. The TLX will arrive this fall and the TLX Type S will follow next spring. Acura isn’t messing around; these new versions come standard with turbocharged engines, featuring a lot more power. The Base TLX will come with a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder with 272hp and 280lb.-ft of torque, which is a 66hp more and 100lbs of torque more than the current base engine. The 2021 Acura TLX Type S gets new turbocharged 3.0L V6 24-valve, DOHC direct-injected and turbocharged engine utilizing a dual scroll turbocharger and electronic wastegate. Acura has not released the horsepower or torque numbers for the Type S engine, all they would say is the new engine delivers dramatic gains in peak horsepower and, more critically, in torque, across the engine’s full operating range, including a more than 50-percent increase in low-end torque. Final specifications for the new engine, including power output, will be released closer to launch timing. Both engines come matted to Acura’s 10-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The TLX also features Acura 4th generation rear-bias SH-AWD, think the same system used in the Popular RDX. Now styling is strong thanks to its low and wide stance, long dash-to-axle ratio, long hood, tapered glass and pronounced rear fenders. The new TLX features a 94mm longer wheelbase, 56mm wider body with wider front and rear tracks, lower roof and an extended dash-to-axle dimension. Basically this is longer, lower, wider and more muscular than the last car and it looks great. A-Spec features Grey 19-inch wheels, gloss black accents, darkened headlight and taillight treatment, and a pronounced rear decklid spoiler. Type s adds unique Diamond Pentagon grille and larger side air, a rear decklid spoiler, sportier front splitter and rear diffuser, and large quad exhaust outlets. Also, 20-inch wheels. The platform is all-new returning Acura to a double wishbone front suspension that helped define the brand years ago. The body features a 50 percent increase in torsional stiffness and up to a 100 percent improvement in localized rigidity where the suspension is mounted to the body. The new structure uses 56 percent advanced, lightweight materials, including aluminum and press-hardened steel. The interior might be a bit busy for some but it certainly looks sporty with Dual Personal Cockpit. The TLX’s high and wide center tunnel and wrap-around instrument panel create a sporty, cockpit design while its wider body design enables more comfort, with top-of-class hip and shoulder room. The same large centre knob used to control the driver systems is still front and centre. A-Spec and Type S get a thick, flat-bottom steering wheel plus larger metal-plated paddle shifters. The TLX Type S interior is distinguished by Type S badging on the door sills, steering wheel and embossed headrests. The True Touchpad Interface™. System, the same as the RDX is used here. It features a 10.2-inch display and a console mounted touchpad. There is some good news, the TLX’s new interface features real physical Power, Volume and Seek controls to the right of the touchpad. There have been complaints with the RDX user interface; it will be interesting to try it out in this new TLX. The new TLX will be manufactured in Marysville, Ohio. The TLX’s 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre turbocharged engines will be produced in the Anna, Ohio, engine plant. Acura certainly looks to be battling in the mid-size premium category with plenty of power, sharp design and value. The TLX will arrive this fall starting under $30,000 USD and $40,000 CDN. The price and specifications of the Type S will come later, look for that car in the spring of 2021. What do you think, will this car help bring Acura back to its former glory as a producer of high-quality premium and sporty sedans. Let me know…
