After announcing his intention to resign as Canada's prime minister, Justin Trudeau said his “one regret” was not being able to introduce electoral reform.

Trudeau said he had wanted to introduce a system of proportional representation, specifically ranked choice voting where voters can choose a second or third choice on the same ballot.

However, he said it “wouldn’t have been responsible” to do so without the support of other parties.

Trudeau also spoke about the resignation of Chrystia Freeland, saying he had “hoped” she would stay on as deputy prime minister and claiming she would have been in charge of “one of the most important files that not just this government, btu the country is facing.”
