When this man takes the chain out of the container, it doesn't just fall, it rises into the air like a fountain. This phenomenon is called the mold effect or chain fountain. It is a unique phenomenon where a long chain placed in a container can appear to "jump" into the air when the end is dropped outside. Instead of just sliding out, the chain actually forms a curve, as if defying gravity. What actually happens? As the chain falls, the momentum and tension between the links pulls the inside of the container upward. This upward force is strong enough to lift the chain before gravity pulls it back down.
