Yesterday at Metro Colosseo in Rome, I witnessed something shocking—15 pickpockets, all with the same style and technique, working the crowded station. They moved in pairs or small groups, dressed casually to blend in, and targeted distracted tourists. Their method was slick: one would create a distraction, another would subtly unzip backpacks or reach into pockets, and a third would swiftly take the stolen item and pass it along to avoid detection. Most of them carried jackets or bags to conceal their hands, making it harder to notice their movements. They mainly lurked near ticket machines, escalators, and train doors, where people are focused on boarding. Stay extra vigilant in Rome’s metro—especially at Colosseo, Termini, and other tourist-heavy stations. Keep your bags zipped, wear them in front, and be aware of sudden distractions around you!
