Maintaining a soccer field involves more than just watering and mowing the grass. Bermuda or zoysia grass is preferred because it is hardy and recovers quickly. There is a drainage system and a layer of gravel underneath to prevent stagnant water. The soil is regularly aerated by being hollowed out and filled with fine sand to keep it flat and prevent compaction. The grass is cut with a cylindrical machine that leaves it 2-3 cm high so that the ball rolls perfectly. After a match, any damaged areas are immediately repaired by seeding or replacing parts of the grass. These processes are all done to create a safe, level, and always ready-to-use pitch.
