Mazda has added a turbo to the Mazda3 sedan and hatchback. The same turbocharged engine used in the CX-9, XC-5 and Mazda6 is now available for the Mazda3 sedan and hatchback but only on the top GT trim. This new Mazda3 Turbo is equipped with standard AWD as well, which is why Mazda feels this new car will be a premium car alternative. Vehicles like the Mercedes A-Class, Acura ILX, Audi A3 are all direct competitors but the Mazda3 is less expensive. Mazda has a premium cabin, with soft-touch materials, a centre control dial and more. The power from the turbocharged 2.5L 4-cylinder engine is 250hp on premium fuel but 227hp on regular. The torque is 320lb.-ft on premium and 310lb.-ft. on regular. Mazda believes that this new Mazda3 Turbo will take buyers who are shopping for a premium car and bring them into the Mazda brand.
