This is a really rare and precious record and it's been a long time since I've heard a record sound so convincing from the point of view of historically informed performance. This decidedly underrated ensemble comprises a group of about 11/14 musicians about whom I have been unable to trace any information! If anyone has any to share about it, please do it. Active since 1989, they have released four records, the last of which dates back to 2005 and is divided into a double CD: the first is dedicated to troubadour and folk repertoire with some excerpts from the "Roman de Fauvel"; while the second is actually a reissue of an album dedicated to "Carmina Burana" and "Cantigas de Santa Maria" first released in 1991 and which I will share with you soon.
What is most convincing in the proposal of the Jehan de Channey ensemble is its minimalism despite the high number of musicians. The sound obtained is fascinating and somewhat reminiscent of that of the Clemencic Consort, whose influence has been decisive from the 1970s to today for any musician who looks into the "abyss" of medieval music.

Concerning the video: I used some wonderful images from MS M.399 dated to the 15th, 16th century. Although it is later than the musical works presented, leafing through it while listening to the album I found it particularly appropriate and I chose some images perfect for the time of the year in which we find ourselves, precisely the one in which the troubadours sang most willingly.
