We are back in Nice, the city located in the Côte d'Azur or “blue coast” area. We are here in mid-February beating the heat and crowds. Let’s see what we can do in Nice and around in winter time.
During our first walk in Nice we will go to Cimiez, a neighbourhood in the old part of Nice. There are several tourist attractions on this hill where Cemenelum, the capital of the Ancient Roman province, was situated. They include the Archaeological Museum of Nice-Cimiez, the Franciscan Monastery, which has been used by Franciscan monks since the 16th century, the Roman arena, the amphitheatre, the thermal baths and Musée Matisse. Archaeological excavations were conducted on the site during 1950 and 1960 and many objects discovered during this period are now displayed in the museum. The Arena of Cimiez is only a 40 minutes’ walk from the Promenade des Anglais.
After lunch, we decided to take a 40-minute walk up again to get a bird’s eye view of the city. Tourists rarely visit this area. We will walk two city districts — Mantega and Le Piol. The Promenade des Anglais, 2016, France, Nice, heavily armed police, Hotel Negresco, Palais de la Méditerranée
