Functions of graphs can be shifted and reflected. In this 2 part video we will look at horizontal and vertical, reflections and translations. Translations shift the functions. For vertical transformations, the transformation is applied to the whole function. Vertical translations shift the whole function up or down, and vertical reflections reflect the function in the x-axis. To reflect a function vertically, multiply the whole function by a negative. For horizontal transformations, the transformation is added directly to the x's in the function equation, and only to the x's. Horizontal translations shift the function left and right. Positive numbers shift the curve to the left, and negative numbers shift the graph to the right. For horizontal reflections, the function is reflected in the y-axis.
