This is the terrifying story of the Champavat tiger, a fearsome predator that claimed a record 436 lives in Nepal and India. Entire villages lived in constant fear, afraid to go outside their homes. The tiger mainly targeted small children and women who went into the forest to collect firewood and cattle - beating them to death.
Dubbed "Demon," the Champawat tiger was a female Royal Bengal tiger—one of the largest cat species in the world—that chased people and killed them for their meat.
The tiger became a master of hunting people and developed unique escape strategies. He traveled long distances between villages and even ventured into new territories to avoid death from the local population and hunters.
Despite numerous efforts by the government, which even set a reward for the tiger, no one was able to kill the wild beast.
However, then Jim Corbett appeared - a skilled Irish shooter who was born and raised in India during the British Empire. He became one of the most famous tiger hunters, killing 50 of the rogue beasts, which together killed around 2,000 people.
Corbett was tasked with taking down Tiger Champawat, who managed to follow him using a trail of blood.
In 1907, right after the wild beast killed its last victim - a 16-year-old girl - an Irish hunter shot the tiger.
This is a story of courage, resilience and an epic battle that went down in history. A lover of Indian wildlife, Corbett spent the last two decades of his life campaigning to protect the big cats.
