On the 23rd of July, 2024, the Yellowstone Geyser system experienced a major hydrothermal eruption at the Biscuit Basin thermal area. In this video we take a look at what occurred, and explain a hydrothermal eruption versus a magmatic one. Thankfully no one was injured in this recent event, although a boardwalk was damaged. This hydrothermal eruption does not signal that the Yellowstone supervolcano is about to erupt, and it differs from an actual volcanic eruption.
