The Temperance reef is an insanely gold saturated line of vertical quartz that was deposited into the bedrock of Victoria some 430 million years ago. The northernmost part of it, was, obviously discovered and worked, but there remained a mystery as to what happened to the southern section of it, which suddenly disappeared amongst a cross course.

The southern section was much sought after, and many attempts were made to find it, but, the geologists and miners of the time were missing one crucial bit of information, that, when combined with the existing knowledge, serves to answer many of the questions that baffled the folks of the 1870s, who sunk many shafts in an attempt to locate it.

And in this video, that crucial bit of information is presented, and, whilst still in the early stages of hypothesizing, it more than likely explains why this southern section was never located.
