This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the all-new 2022 Honda Civic and the 2021 Mazda3. Both of these compact cars have amazing features, let's get into it.The Mazda3 Sport is only slightly longer than the Honda Civic and they both offer about the same front legroom. In the 2nd row, the Civic offers 2 inches more legroom and half an inch more headroom. The Civic also wins in cargo space offering 34 litres or 1.2 cubic feet more space. The Civic has two engines, a 2L 4-cylinder matched with a CVT, 158 horsepower and a 1.5L Turbo 4-cylinder with 180 horsepower. The Civic sedan does not offer a manual transmission and it’s FWD only. There is a hatchback coming with a manual transmission option.The Mazda3 has 3 engines with a 6-speed automatic transmission. A 2L 4-cylinder with 155 horsepower, FWD only. A 2.5L with 186 horsepower, standard FWD and optional AWD. A 6-speed manual is standard on both of these engines. And finally, the 2.5L turbo-charged 4-cylinder with 250 horsepower (premium fuel) or 227 horsepower (regular fuel). Standard AWD. There is no 2L engine available in the US. They both offer similar standard features like LED headlights and taillights, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, heated cloth front seats and manual driver and passenger seats. On the Civic, one up from the base model gets you a moonroof, but on the Mazda you have to add a package to that trim to get this feature. The Mazda offers a standard 8.8” display with Mazda connect and a 7” driver display. The Civic comes standard with a 7” touchscreen, a 9” touchscreen and 10.2” digital driver display is standard on the top trim. The top trim of the Civic has wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto and power passenger seats. The Mazda does not offer either of these features on any trims.The Honda Civic has a simple and uncluttered interior design focusing on high quality materials especially on touch points. Materials were also chosen for practicality including the centre console designed to hide smudges and fingerprints. The striking honeycomb mesh accent stretches across the dash from door to door hiding the air vents and creating a uncluttered design. The Civic comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch driver information display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto and heated front seats. One up from the base model, the EX trim is our best value trim for an extra $2300 CAD compared to the base model, you get features like a heated steering wheel and dual zone automatic climate control. The Top Touring trim has a lot of extra features including, a 12 speaker Bose Sound system, leather trimmed seating surfaces, a 9” colour touchscreen, 10.2” digital driver display, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, driver and passenger power seats and heated rear seats.The Mazda3 has a beautiful and elegant interior. The quality of materials used especially on the top trim is comparable to a luxury brand making it a near premium cabin. It comes standard with an 8.8” display with Mazda Connect, a 7” LCD display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, rear heater ducts, manual driver and passenger seats and heated cloth front seats. One up from the base model comes with a heated steering wheel and if you add the luxury package to this trim, you get leatherette-trimmed upholstery, power driver’s seat, and driver seat memory for $1,900 CAD extra. This is standard on the Preferred trim in the US. All these features come standard on the GT trim except you get leather upholstery instead of leatherette and a 12-speaker Bose sound system. The Anniversary trim comes with a few extra’s like a garnet red leather interior, red floor carpet, red floor mats and headrests with the 100th Anniversary badging. The Mazda3 does not come with power passenger seats or heated rear seats like the Civic.
