Diabolus in Musica is a French ensemble of ancient music currently directed by Nicolas Sansarlat and previously, for thirty years, by Antoine Guerber. With decades of experience conducted especially within the immense medieval repertoire, from Gregorian chant to 15th century polyphony, it recently had the honor of being invited to the reopening ceremony of the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris.

The album I present to you dates back to 2005, when the ensemble was still directed by Guerber. The repertoire presented is focused entirely on the music of the trouvères of northern France.
About the video: I chose the manuscript MS M.638 also known as "The Crusader Bible". I chose it for the care taken in its paintings as well as for the fact that it is contemporary with the repertoire performed. One thing that struck me was the brutality of the images both in the representation of the devastation of Christians towards the art of the classical era considered to be destroyed, and in the various martyrs and killings depicted. But, after all, this is the Middle Ages! An era of lights and shadows just like all other eras, including our own.
