Boom! 🚀✈️ Supersonic travel is back and closer than ever.

On Tuesday, U.S. aerospace startup Boom made history by breaking the sound barrier with its XB-1 jet during a test flight over California’s Mojave Air & Space Port.

The jet hit Mach 1.122 (750 mph) at 35,290 feet, marking a major milestone for civil aviation as the first privately funded supersonic aircraft in the U.S. to do so.

It’s been almost 55 years since Concorde’s prototype first flew at Mach 1, and more than 21 years since commercial supersonic travel ended. Now, Boom is taking the next step with the Overture supersonic airliner, which will fly at Mach 1.7, cutting transatlantic travel to just 3.5 hours.
