In this video I will be showing you how to block websites on Chrome browser. This tutorial will help you to block websites of any type based on the web URL or a particular word that exists in the URL string. Basically this is a free browser addon available in Chrome webstore but the premium version has an ability to switch on the uninstall protection which means no user other than administrator can uninstall this browser addon. So, let's get started to know how to block websites on Google Chrome.
Download Block Site Chrome Extension:
First, you need to install a chrome browser addon called "Block Site". Go through the link provided here in the description to download the same. It's about 1.5 mb. Wait until the download completes and proceed to install the addon on Chrome.
After successful installation, open the website that you would like to block. Right click anywhere on the window then select "Block Site" followed by "Add current site to blacklist". In the next second, you will be greeted with a message that the selected site was blocked. This is the first method and the easier way to block websites on chrome. Let me explain you some advanced features.
Right click on the browser window and here select "Block Site" then "Options". This will open a new tab with bunch of options.
The first feature here is "Blocked Sites". User have any ability to block a particular website and can redirect the url to any other site. For example say, I would like to block facebook.com. When I did that, it shows a message saying that this site was block intentionally. So, to overcome this, redirect facebook.com to google.com where it looks natural and other users might think it's a PC issue. You can export the blocked websites list and can import the same here in this section.
The second feature here in this addon is "Blocked Words". Yes, user can choose which words to block on chrome. Note, the words that you would like to block must be on URL string. For example say "book". Then the websites like facebook.com or freshbooks.com won't open up until this option is enabled. Even when the google search query frames the URL structure, it will blocks it too. You can redirect these webpages to other page using custom redirect feature.
The last useful feature is Authentication. Set the password where only the users who knows this password can change the settings like changing or deleted blocked websites from admin panel.
Also, make sure to OFF "Allow sending anonymous statistics? " in "other" section.
You can play with other options and make use of this addon to the most.
