Wondering if you can use old phone wire to power your PoE cameras? The answer is yes—up to a certain distance! In this video, I demonstrate how to run Power over Ethernet (PoE) using just four leads from a phone wire.

I’m using an Avalonix Premium Series NVR and a PoE camera, powered entirely by a four-lead cable pulled from a Cat5e wire. As long as the wire is at least 24 gauge and properly crimped with an RJ45 connector, it can transmit both power and data to your PoE camera.
